Sickle Cell Association envisions becoming the leader in championing the advancement of the sickle cell awareness initiatives and patient advocacy in Hampton Roads Virginia.
The Sickle Cell Association, Inc. serves as a vehicle and resource center for the psycho social, education and support service needs of sickle cell families affected by the disease.
* Sickle Cell Association, Inc. was founded in 1972 as a nonprofit, community based organization. Its programs in community health education and support counseling services are funded through a grant from the Virginia Department of Health, and partial grants from Franklin –Southampton Area United Way, Eastern Shore of Virginia United Way, community donations and annual special events.
* The Sickle Cell Association, Inc. has a 7-member Board of Directors and a staff of three with a core of 100 volunteers
* The Sickle Cell Association, Inc. serves the Hampton Roads region of Chesapeake, Franklin, Isle of Wight County, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Southampton County, Suffolk, Virginia Beach and the Virginia Eastern Shore.
* The Association is a member of the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America, Inc. and Statewide Sickle Cell Chapters of Virginia.
